This opening is great news for individuals and families finding it tough to secure affordable homes. They now have a chance to sign up for one or multiple waitlists until April 25th, providing a pathway to find housing within a reasonable price range.
For those interested in applying or looking for further details, there’s a link provided by the Reno Housing Authority. Additionally, application kiosks are available in their main lobby and the downtown Reno Library for easier access.
Dr. Hilary Lopez, who leads the Reno Housing Authority, mentioned that the organization has been supporting Washoe County for over 80 years and takes pride in its accomplishments. She also highlighted the authority's ongoing projects aimed at enhancing housing options for the community.
One significant project includes redeveloping the former Hawk View housing site, transforming 100 units of public housing into 200 units designated for long-term residency.
With a portfolio of 22 different waitlists overseeing several hundred housing units across the county, the Reno Housing Authority presents varied options.
Dr. Lopez explained that the open waitlists are primarily for property-based applications, covering units at public housing sites, project-based voucher properties, or specific housing developments, unlike the Housing Choice Voucher Waitlist (formerly known as 'Section 8), which is more flexible regarding the choice of housing within the private market.
