Arlington County Updates Housing Grants Program: What You Need to Know

What Is Changing?
Starting in October 2026, new applicants will enter a waitlist process. This fair, organized system will manage new admissions whenever demand for housing assistance exceeds available funding.
What Does This Mean for Current Participants?
If you currently receive rental assistance through this program, you will not lose your support simply because of the new waitlist. As long as you continue to meet the basic program rules and income guidelines, your assistance will continue.
Who Is Eligible?
The program supports qualifying Arlington residents, including:
- Seniors aged 65 and older
- Working families with children under 18
- Households with a resident who is permanently and totally disabled (applicants in this category must provide proof of qualifying benefits, such as SSI or SSDI)
Important Dates and Next Steps
- Before September 30, 2026: New applications are still being accepted under the current process. Anyone who thinks they might qualify is encouraged to apply now.
- October 2026: The new waitlist registration process begins. Details on how to sign up will be released before pre-registration opens.
