New York State has begun sending out payments through the School Tax Relief (STAR) program. This year, the program will provide over $2 billion in relief to nearly 2.8 million homeowners across the state.
How Much Will You Receive?
The amount you get depends on which type of STAR benefit you qualify for:
- Basic STAR: Most homeowners will receive between $350 and $600
- Enhanced STAR: Senior citizens who qualify for this version can receive between $700 and $1,500
When Will Payments Arrive?
Payments have already started going out and will continue through the summer and fall. The exact timing depends on where you live.
Homeowners in New York City, Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse typically receive their payments earlier because of their local school tax schedules.
