$1,000 Stimulus Check: A Rent Rebate Program for Pennsylvanians

Eligible individuals now have an extended period to apply for this benefit.
This rent rebate program targets:
- Homeowners and renters who are 65 years old and above,
- People who are 50 and older and have lost their spouses (widows and widowers),
- Individuals with disabilities who are 18 and older.
To qualify, applicants must meet specific income criteria. Those who are eligible can receive up to $1,000, which aims to alleviate the financial strain of housing expenses.
The funding for these rebates comes from the state’s lottery and gaming revenues. The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue acknowledges the program’s vital role in supporting older adults who struggle financially. Applications are accepted by mail, online, or in person until June 30.
Jason Kavulich, Pennsylvania Secretary of Aging, mentioned the positive impact of expanding the program, allowing more residents to benefit. He stressed the importance of affordable housing for older adults, stating that this assistance helps them stay in their homes and continue being active community members.
The program's success is evident in its numbers. Last year, it distributed 522,434 rebates, amounting to $319.2 million—up from 405,493 rebates totaling $192 million in the previous year. This increase follows the program's recent expansion, which has enjoyed broad support, including from Governor Shapiro.
As of 2025, nearly 400,000 applications have been received, surpassing last year's total at this time. The authorities anticipate an additional 41,000 applicants will join the program's latest phase.
